Cary and Josiah Rich

Our Director and Co-Owners

Cary and Josiah Rich operated a family day care home in Santa Rosa, CA

from October 15, 1990 - October 8, 2017.

After their community was devastated by the October 2017 wild fires in Sonoma County; with the loss of their home and business, they revised their business model and opened Santa Rosa Rise and Shine Child Care Center.

Cary earned her degree from Santa Rosa Junior College with a double major, in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. She holds a Supervisor's Permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  She continues her education regularly to stay abreast of changes that occur in her field.

Josiah has his Masters Degree from International Seminary, he has served on Sonoma County's Board of Mental Health.

After revising their business model Josiah completed the requirements in the area of Early Childhood Education and earned his Teacher’s Permit from the State of California Commission on Teaching Credentialing.

They are participants in the 'Quality Counts', CARES and PITC programs where they will continue their professional development with the hopes of their center becoming a training and observation site.

Together, they have raised six children; five daughters and one son.  They have nine grandchildren and a multitude of other 'children' thought Sonoma County that have touched their hearts and still remain in contact with many of the families to this day!

Cary and Josiah would love to open their arms and hearts to include your family as an added extension of theirs!

In her early teen years, Julia volunteered at Hidden Valley Satellite, until this program burned down in 2017. While working there she assisted with food prep, homework and crafts.

She has one older sibling.  She enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors. She currently attends SRJC where she is majoring in radiology.

Her patience with children makes her a great asset to our program.

Over the past year she has been learning to sew on her new sewing machine.  Anna has been experimenting with her creative side by recycling clothes and making them new!

She takes initiative when interacting with the children and they respond to her positively.

We are excited to have Anna as a part of our team!

Ian will be earning volunteer community hours working in our setting assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of our environment.  You may see him on occasion facilitating activities for the older toddlers during the day.

He will add great value interacting as a 'big brother' with our toddlers.

Bear, pup-mascot

We'd like to introduce 'Bear'!

Bear is our pup 'mascot'.  She is our two-year-old, very friendly, Labrador Retriever that has a mellow disposition (somewhat uncommon for a Labrador).

She will not be interacting with the children but she may, on occasion, be an ever-present-observer!

She will welcome petting and may return the favor with pup
